Repair or build — one crew for both
Some jobs need a few rotted boards and a solid railing; others call for framing from the ground up. We do both, so you're not hiring one company to patch and another to build.
Pittsfield, MA · Serving the Berkshires
From tightening up a wobbly railing to framing a brand-new covered porch, our carpenters make Berkshire decks safe, solid, and built to last.
A deck or porch takes a beating in the Berkshires — freeze-thaw winters, wet springs, and years of sun eventually loosen railings, soften boards, and let steps start to sag. King & Sons handles both sides of that work from our North Street shop in Pittsfield: the repairs that make an aging deck safe again, and the full builds when it's time for something new. Our crews have framed decks on helical piers, put up covered porches, and finished screened porches you'd actually want to sit on. Whether a board flexes underfoot or you're picturing a fresh pressure-treated deck off the back of the house, we'll come look at it and tell you straight what it needs.

We chase problems to the source — posts, footings, ledger boards, and framing — so a repair actually holds instead of hiding rot for another season.
Pressure-treated framing, proper flashing, and footings set right mean your deck or porch stands up to freeze-thaw winters and wet springs year after year.
Twelve years in business and a full crew means we can staff your build and keep it moving instead of leaving a torn-apart deck sitting for weeks.
What’s included
Who it’s for
Pittsfield and Berkshire County homeowners with an aging deck that feels unsafe, anyone planning a new deck, covered porch, or screened porch, and landlords or property managers who need railings and steps brought back to safe, solid condition for tenants.
Pittsfield & Berkshire County
We're based at 395 North Street in Pittsfield and work throughout the surrounding Berkshire towns. Local weather is hard on outdoor structures — hard freezes heave footings, snow load stresses porch roofs, and damp shoulder seasons find their way into any board that isn't sealed and flashed right. That's the climate we build for. Spring through fall is the busy stretch for new decks and porches, so if you're planning one for this season, it's worth reaching out early to get on the schedule.
Questions
Depends on what we find. If the framing and posts are sound, we can often replace bad boards and railings and get you years more out of it. If the structure itself is failing, we'll tell you honestly that a rebuild is the smarter money — and we can do that too.
Yes. We've built open pressure-treated decks, covered porches with full roof framing, and finished screened porches for three-season use. Tell us how you want to use the space and we'll figure out the right build.
That's one of the most common calls we get. Loose railings, wobbly posts, and sagging steps are usually fixable and shouldn't be ignored — we'll secure or replace them so the deck is safe to use again.
We do. For decks that need solid footing without a poured foundation, helical piers give a strong, stable base — we've framed decks on them and it holds up well in our freeze-thaw ground.
