Finish carpenters, not floor droppers
The same crew that builds our custom counters and tongue-and-groove ceilings lays the floors. Seams stay tight, board ends stagger cleanly, and the pattern lines up across doorways instead of jumping.
Pittsfield, MA · Serving the Berkshires
Tight seams, clean transitions, and a finished floor that still looks right years later. Hardwood, vinyl, and laminate installed by a local Pittsfield crew.
A hardwood floor shows every shortcut. A gap at the wall, a lippage where two boards meet, a transition strip that sits proud of the tile next to it — you notice it every time you walk through the room. King & Sons has been doing finish work around Pittsfield and the Berkshires for 12 years, and hardwood installation is where that experience earns its keep. We rack out the floor before a single board goes down, keep the runs straight, undercut door casings so planks tuck in clean, and set transitions flush so the floor reads as one continuous surface. Solid hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank, or laminate — the goal is the same: a floor that looks right the day we leave and holds up to a real Berkshire household.

Where the wood meets tile, carpet, or a stair nose is where cheap installs fall apart. We undercut casings, scribe to out-of-square walls, and set flush transitions so nothing catches your foot or your eye.
New England winters run dry and summers run damp. We let flooring acclimate in the room before install and leave the correct expansion gap at the perimeter, so your floor doesn't cup in July or gap in January.
We can pull up old flooring, deal with squeaky or uneven subfloor, and lay the new material — no juggling three different contractors. We're on North Street in Pittsfield and answer the phone.
What’s included
Who it’s for
Pittsfield and Berkshire County homeowners putting hardwood in a living room, refreshing a whole floor before selling, or swapping worn carpet for vinyl plank in a busy family space — plus landlords, property managers, and small commercial spaces that need durable, good-looking floors installed by a crew that shows up.
Pittsfield & Berkshire County
We're based at 395 North Street in Pittsfield and install floors across the surrounding Berkshire towns. Local matters here: houses in the Berkshires swing from bone-dry, forced-heat winters to humid summers, and that movement is exactly what makes a rushed floor cup, gap, or squeak. Because we live and work in the same climate, we plan for it — acclimating the material on site and leaving the right expansion room — instead of laying boards tight and hoping. Being close by also means if something needs a look after the job, we're a short drive away, not a state line.
Questions
Both. We install solid hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank, and laminate. Vinyl plank has gotten popular for kitchens, basements, and rental units because it handles moisture well, and laminate is a budget-friendly look-alike. We'll walk through which makes sense for your room and your budget.
Yes. We pull up existing carpet, tile, or old wood, haul it away, and check the subfloor underneath before we lay anything new. Catching a soft or uneven subfloor before install is what keeps the finished floor from squeaking or flexing later.
We work out of North Street in Pittsfield and take flooring jobs throughout Pittsfield and the surrounding Berkshire County towns. If you're not sure whether you're in our range, just call and ask.
Usually, yes. Squeaks are often loose subfloor that we can refasten, and minor unevenness we can flatten before install. Once we see it in person we'll tell you straight what it needs — we're not going to lay a nice floor over a problem that'll come back.
For a typical room or two it's often a few days, depending on how much old flooring comes out, the subfloor condition, and time to let the material acclimate. We'll give you a realistic timeline with your quote, not a rushed promise.
We do our best to blend the species, width, and finish so a new room reads with the rest of the house, and we set the transition between old and new so it looks intentional. Exact matches on older or discontinued floors aren't always possible, and we'll tell you upfront what to expect.
